How GCSE maths lessons work

Lessons are one-to-one on a video call, at the same time each week. Noah writes out the working live on a shared screen, so your child can follow every step and ask about anything that doesn’t make sense.

Each lesson is built around your child: the topics they find hard, what they’re covering at school, and past paper questions as the exams get closer. Everything starts with a free phone call to talk through where they are and what they’re aiming for.

Foundation or Higher tier

GCSE maths is graded from 9 to 1. Higher tier leads to grades 4 to 9, and Foundation tier to grades 1 to 5. Lessons work for either, whether the goal is a solid pass, moving up to Higher tier or pushing for a 9.

What lessons cover

The whole GCSE course, across its six areas:

  • Number: fractions, percentages, powers, surds and standard form
  • Algebra: equations, inequalities, graphs, sequences and quadratics
  • Ratio, proportion and rates of change
  • Geometry and measures: angles, area and volume, Pythagoras, trigonometry, vectors and circle theorems
  • Probability
  • Statistics

Lessons also cover exam technique. There’s a non-calculator paper as well as calculator papers, and clear working earns method marks even when the final answer goes wrong.

Who it’s for

  • Students aiming for a 7, 8 or 9
  • Students who want to move up a set or to Higher tier
  • Students who’ve fallen behind or lost confidence in maths
  • Year 10s and 11s revising for their exams

Exam boards

Lessons cover AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR and WJEC Eduqas. If you’re not sure which board your child is studying, their school can tell you, or Noah can help you find out on the call.

Your tutor

Noah got a grade 9 in GCSE Maths with 230 out of 240, then A*s in A-Level Maths and Further Maths in 2025. He only recently sat these exams himself, so he knows what examiners look for. Read Noah’s full profile and results.

GCSE Further Maths and Additional Maths

Taking Level 2 Further Maths or Additional Maths as well? Noah got an 8 in AQA Further Maths, a single mark off a 9. See Further Maths tutoring.

GCSE maths tutoring: common questions

How much does a GCSE maths tutor cost?

The price is £30 per lesson, and each lesson is 60 minutes, one-to-one and online. Introductory price for new students — rising to £35 soon. Every new student starts with a free phone call to talk through what they need.

When should my child start GCSE maths tutoring?

Any time is fine. Starting in Year 10 or early in Year 11 leaves time to fill gaps before revision season. Closer to the exams, lessons can focus on past papers and the kinds of questions that come up most.

Can you help with Foundation tier?

Yes. Lessons cover both Foundation and Higher tier. If you’re unsure which tier is right, your child’s maths teacher is the best person to ask, and Noah can talk it through with you on the intro call.

Which exam boards do you cover?

AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR and WJEC Eduqas. Your child’s school can tell you which one they’re studying.

Are lessons online?

Yes. Lessons take place on a video call, so you can be anywhere in the UK. Your child needs a laptop or tablet and a reliable internet connection.
